About us

Formed in 1998, INEOS has grown rapidly through a series of related acquisitions to become a leading manufacturer of refined products, basic, intermediate and speciality chemicals.

We are one of the largest petrochemicals companies in the world, with a turnover of more than US$44bn and we are also the UK’s largest, privately owned company. INEOS comprises 18 decentralised businesses each with a major chemicals company heritage. With 70 manufacturing sites in 14 countries, including two oil refineries, the company employs approximately 16 000 people around the world.

We are a young and dynamic company with an entrepreneurial spirit and strong manufacturing heritage. Our commitment to new ideas and innovative ways of thinking has seen us grow substantially.

Two of our European assets, Grangemouth, Scotland and Lavera, France, have fully integrated crude oil refineries within their sites. These two refineries, operated by INEOS refining, have a total annual production of 20 million tonnes of fuel products, including ultra low sulphur diesel, petrol, aviation fuel and heating oil.

A few examples of chemicals manufactured by INEOS including their final end uses are:

• Polypropylene - Crates, trays, packaging, carpets, DVD cases, ropes and toys.
• Polyethylene - Film, food packaging, drinks cartons, electrical cabling and plastic bags.
• PVC - Car interiors, blister packs for medicine, credit cards, clothing
• Chlorine - Makes drinking water safe.
• Petrol/Diesel - Manufacture bulk of motor fuels for the Scottish market.
