Asset Care Engineer, Finnart (Permanent)



The role is within the Petroineos Refinery Engineering Team - Finnart.

As part of an experienced Asset engineering team, you will be responsible for managing the mechanical integrity of equipment in Scotland’s largest refinery, with broad accountability for the site tank farm. The role includes interfacing with the commercial parts of the business and requires an enterprise approach to delivering engineering solutions to match business demands.

As the Asset Care Engineer within the Engineering Team, you will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Provision of discipline engineering to the Asset Team to ensure required technical input to deliver integrity, safety and reliability of the maintenance, plant modification and operation of the Asset.  This will include support for RBI, vulnerability and RCFA reviews and administration of contracts for provision of technical support.
  • Direct the Asset Inspection process to ensure compliance with the Statutory and Integrity inspection schedule including approval of written schemes of examination
    ( Lead the monthly inspection review meeting and endorse execution plans to ensure Asset integrity is not compromised.)
  • Authorise all repair programs resulting from inspection reports to ensure that the Asset plant integrity standards are delivered.
  • Monitor effectiveness of the Asset Care Policy implementation in delivery of the Asset integrity and reliability targets.
  • Advise the Maintenance Manager that the budget and resource planning are adequate to deliver the annual Asset Care implementation plan.
  • Ensure that the MMS (Maintenance Management System) database for all equipment has the correct technical details, master maintenance documents and properly schedules preventive maintenance to achieve the Asset Care Policy.
  • Develop, select, recommend, and install engineering improvements for the asset equipment to achieve the agreed asset improvement targets.


  • Honours Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline (2:1 minimum).
  • Chartered Engineer or in advanced stages of working towards chartership with the IMechE (or another engineering institute).
  •  Able to demonstrate sound engineering judgement and with extensive experience in using fundamental engineering skills.
  • Proven record of delivering and supporting technically challenging projects.
  • Motivated and driven to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
  • Awareness of own technical limitations and using the help and support of others to deliver.
  • Commercial acumen.
  • Some on-site or hands-on plant experience in the Oil and Gas sector in construction or integrity engineering is desirable
  • Knowledge of industry codes (EEMUA, API) relating to Tank mechanical integrity and operations.
  • Experience with risk-based inspection (RBI) and/or reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) processes.
