Days Availability Supervisor (DAS), Finnart Refinery – Permanent. 



Petroineos Refining and Trading is one of the largest independent refiners trading in Europe. This is an exciting time to join us at our Finnart site; we are seeking a Days Availability Supervisor (DAS) to join our Engineering team at our Finnart site on a permanent basis.

The DAS will provide technical support, direct, guide, coach, communicate, manage and drive the performance of the craft technician teams within the manufacturing areas. Take ownership for delivery of the Asset Maintenance Plan incorporating both PM and CEB works. The role is responsible for maintaining safe behaviours, identifying, and eliminating causes of unsafe acts, unavailability and cost efficiency. The role will included shared responsibility for availability, reliability and integrity of equipment.

Key responsibilities

  • To provide leadership, motivation, direction, technical assistance and development to a team of skilled craftsmen and assistants, enabling the terminal to be maintained safely and efficiently ensuring that maintenance standards and safety procedures are adhered to at all times.

  • To manage personnel requirements including team communication, counselling, discipline, PPE and facilities, training plans and competency assessment for skilled craftsmen, assistants and apprentices, ensuring that adequate trained resources are available to carry out the work.

  • Providing the job[s] coordination in line with legislation, national, international company standards.

  • Actively participate in Gate Keeping to carry out appropriate level of risk assessment for every planned job before work commences ensuring all risks are identified with mitigation in place.

  • Developing work orders, purchase orders and work packs for maintenance activities [quality, quantity, how to repair, scoping, logistics, financial estimate, material, tooling and coding, ensuring they are fit for purpose and ready for execution.

  • To monitor/control via the Computerised Maintenance Management System, work requests, stores requisitions, overtime, job progress reports, costs, equipment history, technical data and spares, in order to facilitate the safe, smooth operation of the maintenance and planning systems.

  • Responsible for budget development and control to optimize maintenance expense for his / her area and discipline.

  • Update all appropriate records, drawings, files and EDMS systems as required.

  • To conduct group meetings and to participate in ASAs, permit audits, housekeeping tours, accident investigations, task analysis, COSHH, HAZOP Studies, safety reviews, and SIL reviews as well as monitoring safe systems of work.

  • Implementation of and compliance with HSE standards including Control of Work, Tr@ction, LOLER, PUWER, Manual Handling, COSHH, risk assessments and site procedures.

  • To assess routine material, spares and service requirements and to raise purchase requisitions, directly consulting catalogues, manufacturers, suppliers and Petroineos purchasing staff as necessary.

  • To coach and develop the individual and team skills to enable execution of routine maintenance activities by the team with minimal support.

  • To execute and lead set pieces of work including overhauls, turnarounds, etc.

  • To manage the performance and personal development of all members of the team including 1-to-1s and annual appraisals.

  • To ensure craft productivity levels are achieved with minimal unproductive time.

  • To ensure Job Reporting is completed to enable equipment reliability analysis.

  • To lead the initial failure or re-work investigations.

    Skills/Experience required

  • A time served maintenance background with good communication and organisational skills.

  • Ability to lead and supervise a maintenance team and provide a positive, proactive approach.

  • The post holder must be flexible, have the ability to work under pressure, be proficient in computer systems, be able to network effectively with a strong bias for action towards continuous improvement

  • HNC and NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

  • Engineering experience as well as experience in planning and executing major maintenance events would also be beneficial.
