Fabrication QA/QC Inspector

Grangemouth (Permanent)




This role is within the Integrity Team, and is responsible for carrying out inspections to support technical assurance for manufactured equipment supplied to Petroineos. The QA/QC Fabrication Inspector will be involved in assessing fabricated equipment purchased by asset teams, projects and turnaround functions amounting to approximately £30M procured equipment per annum.

Petroineos is currently growing and developing its in-house Integrity Team in order to bring core functions inside the business.  As a newly created role, the right candidate can help develop the organisation and improve our procedures and practices.


The key accountabilities of the role are:


  • Carrying out fabrication and welding inspection activities during manufacture, modifications or repair to pressure equipment. Inspection work may be on site or at manufacturers’ premises.
  • Competent review of Non Destructive Testing reports (RT, UT, PT etc); including radiographic interpretation within the scope of PCN/CSWIP qualification when required by site standards.
  • Monitoring compliance with Inspection and Testing Plans by suppliers, highlighting concerns, and raising Non-Conformance Reports when necessary.
  • Supporting QA/QC Superintendent in review and approval of relevant fabrication documentation
  • Reviewing and endorsing suppliers’ QA/QC handover documentation on behalf of Petroineos completions process
  • Carry out examination of pressure testing or other acceptance testing on pressure systems and components when requested.
  • Witness and verify welding procedure qualification tests and welder performance tests when required by quality plans
  • Reviewing and auditing welder qualifications
  • Assist QA/QC Superintendent with supplier audits
  • Participate in improvement teams where needed to drive improvements in safety, efficiency and reliability


The successful candidate will have:


  • Suitable technical qualifications and/or a background as a time served tradesperson in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum ONC / HNC in Welding and Fabrication or equivalent
  • Qualification to at least Welding Inspector CSWIP 3.1
  • Basic understanding of phased array ultrasonic inspection techniques and interpretation of results
  • Thorough working knowledge of fabrication requirements of relevant mechanical engineering Industry standards e.g. PD 5500, ASME VIII, EN 14015, ASME B31.3
  • Sound understanding of suitable welded repair and maintenance methods for pressure equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – able to communicate verbally and in writing inspection findings and requirements to persons at all levels within Petroineos and 3rd party organisations.
  • Significant experience in fabrication technology with knowledge of manufacturing processes, welding, materials, NDT, QA systems, fabrication codes and standards
