H&S Specialist – Human Factors



FPS is a 100% INEOS-owned integrated oil and gas liquid transportation and processing system with a nominal capacity in excess of one million barrels per day serving the central area of the North Sea.

Oil and gas liquids from over 50 offshore fields and St Fergus flow through pipelines into FPS. FPS transports crude oil and gas liquids from offshore and onshore entry points, processes the liquids at Kinneil and redelivers to the customer Forties Blend Crude Oil at Hound Point and either Raw Gas or fractionated Gas Products at Grangemouth.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the H&S Specialist Team Leader, the H&S Specialist fulfils a number of critical functions as part of the SHE & Compliance organisation, whilst also acting as the INEOS FPS Human Factors Subject Matter Expert within the Business. The H&S Specialist is accountable for advising the organisation on regulatory compliance requirements and industry best practice to mitigate against human error; promoting safe and effective work practices.

Principal Accountabilities

Subject Matter Expert/Focal Point for Human Factors within the INEOS FPS business
Defines, develops and maintains INEOS FPS Management System Documents relevant to discipline
Leads on the development and implementation of the INEOS FPS Human Factors Integration plan to meet INEOS and regulatory requirements associated with Human Factors
Develops and maintains a detailed knowledge of current and proposed regulatory requirements relating to H&S; including Human Factors
Identifies opportunities for improving business performance through the application of Human Factors tools, techniques and best practices
Develops, conducts and reviews H&S and Human Factors related training
Undertakes Level 2 Assurance activities across the business as required to verify critical SHE barriers are effective
Responsible for participating in cross discipline project teams (leading where required)
Leads high actual / potential severity investigations within the asset locations as required
Identifies, develops and co-ordinates the human factors requirements for projects to enable compliance with regulatory requirements, minimising human error during operations
Responsible for the development and maintenance of a SHE CI register; working closely with the SHE Data Specialist to identify priority focus areas for Annual SHE Plan
Oversees the quarterly work safe campaign rota; supporting the delivery of material across the sites where required 
Maintains connections with wider INEOS organisation, relevant government and industry professional bodies to share best practice in Human Factors and other aspects of H&S Management
Represents the organisation through external industry bodies (e.g. CIA, OGUK)

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

Degree qualified (or higher) in a relevant discipline (Mandatory)
Recognised Human Factors Qualification 
Membership of a relevant professional body
Extensive practical experience underpinned with theoretical knowledge of H&S Management Systems
Detailed understanding of current regulatory requirements for Human Factors
Detailed knowledge, understanding and demonstrated practical application of current best practice and developments in Human Factors
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, with ability to present technical and complex concepts to a wide audience
Ability to engage and influence people across the organisation and present INEOS FPS view to external organisations
The position would suit a seasoned SHE Professional who has a strong background in Human Factors; or a Human Factors Specialist who is looking to expand their area of knowledge by supporting additional aspects of Health and Safety Management.
