Instrument / Electrical Engineer - Contract


A truly global company, INEOS is one of the world’s largest chemical companies.  Having committed to significant investment over the next few years, we now require an Instrument / Electrical Engineer with relevant experience to play a key role in the delivery and support of this growth in our business.

Job Purpose

Provide daily support to the I/E Asset (Lead) Engineer and Reliability manager  to deliver set pieces of work in support of Asset SHE, cost and reliability performance targets.

Provide technical engineering support to the Reliability team to manage I/E equipment obsolescence & reduce plant IE vulnerabilities

Principle Accountabilities

Safety, Health, Environment (SHE)

  • Demonstrably support safety principles for Managing Behavioural and Process Safety to ensure asset integrity and personal safety.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Support the Lead I/E Engineer and reliability manager  to deliver compliance for the Asset to the relevant regulatory requirements.
  • SIS Owner
  • Hazardous Area Responsible Person, Inspector of Flammable Hazardous Equipment (Electrical).
  • Electrical Duty Holder
  • Support the audit all I/E inspection activities to ensure continual legal compliance, including the development and reporting of performance indicators for the asset to ensure full compliance with discipline integrity and legislative requirements


  • Support the definition and implementation of instrument and electrical scope for reliability and capital and revenue projects and plant modifications in the KG asset.
  • Ensure asset care policies for all I/E equipment are integrated into the maintenance management system to ensure delivery against asset reliability, protective systems integrity and cost commitments:
  • Support the Project, Maintenance and Planning team, to ensure compliance with the site procedures and asset care policy requirements.
    • Provide support to the KG I/E tech team with project trouble shooting
    • Support Reliability manager with root cause investigations and identification of IE vulnerabilities  
    • Support Reliability projects to  delivery of asset spares and equipment holding to maximise asset reliability and to drive maintenance and TAR efficiency/cost performance.
    • Specify TAR work scope requirements (in accordance with asset strategy) to the Asset Turnaround Manager and assist in execution to support delivery of safe, on time and to budget TAR's.
    • Support the development, delivery and operation of I/E documentation, drawing and maintenance record systems for the asset. 
    • Ensure Reliability project & change activity complies with international legalisation and INEOS standards
      • Management of SIS dossier and test procedures.
      • Support management of Hazardous area Inspection.
      • Management of instrument and electrical safety & maintenance inspections.

Job Requirements

  • Some periods of inconvenience to support planned and unplanned plant outages.
  • Secondment to other site teams to deliver set pieces of work will be necessary.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

  • Degree qualified in Electrical or Instrument and Control discipline or HND or equivalent with relevant industrial experience. 
  • Substantial experience in a manufacturing industry with reliability / project experience or other vocational qualifications. Preferably working towards professional recognition.
  • Knowledge of Instrument and Electrical reliability improvement principles including an understanding of petrochemical process hazard and risk assessment as it applies to instrument and electrical process equipment and its associated systems.
  • Possesses a strong up to date understanding of BS EN 61511and IEC 60079
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of managing equipment reliability systems and processes e.g. asset care.
  • Strong understanding of discipline legislative and technology requirements and demonstrated ability to appropriately translate to equipment inspection/maintenance regimes.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques, reliability tools and vulnerability analysis.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to influence, and drive performance in indirect reporting organisations.
