This is an exciting time to join us at our Grangemouth site, having committed to significant investment over the next few years, we now require a Machinery Lead Engineer with relevant experience within the petrochemical industry to play a key role in the delivery and support of this growth in our business.


Principle Accountabilities of the role:

  • Demonstrably support the INEOS 20 principles for Managing Behavioural and Process Safety to ensure integrity and personal safety through TOP.
  • Define and deliver strategies for all rotating machinery in the KG business to ensure ongoing asset reliability, protective systems integrity and cost commitments.
  • Define and continuously develop the long term (+12 year) Machinery Strategy for KG to ensure clear sight of future budgets and workloads.
  • Propose and audit the care plans for all critical machinery to achieve asset reliability targets between TAR events and avoid unplanned breakdowns.
  • Define the maintenance scope and frequency for major and minor overhauls of the critical machinery including identification of the correct resources to execute the work to a high standard.
  • Lead trouble-shooting on critical equipment failures to establish root cause of failure and define improvements to design to eliminate faults.
  • Develop the Grangemouth site standards to enable KG business to procure technically acceptable rotating equipment which will prove to meet reliability targets.
  • Define and recommend reliability improvements for the rotating equipment on the asset to increase asset reliability and reduce maintenance spend.
  • Define the critical spares policy and associated annual NRR budget for the rotating equipment while meeting the reliability and working capital constraints set by the business.
  • Support all rotating machinery upgrade projects aimed at improving the performance and reliability of the assets.
  • Support and propagate networks with other INEOS sites to share knowledge and develop a library on rotating machinery improvements and best practices.
  • Networking with OEM suppliers of machinery equipment & services to ensure a quick response to support breakdowns and planned TAR events with high quality field service support together with Purchasing Department.
  • Ensure that the costs of machinery support are recovered to Studies, Projects and TAR’s.
  • Influence the technical acceptability, reliability and maintainability of new and replacement rotating equipment with the businesses to ensure that INEOS money is spent wisely by applying applicable standards (API and O&P UK standards).


Candidates must also have experience and understanding of the following:

  • Chartered Mechanical Engineer, (or in the process of gaining recognition)
  • Experienced on a petrochemical or refining manufacturing facility including new plant commissioning, TAR planning and execution and problem solving on large steam turbines and centrifugal compressor trains, pumps, and reciprocating compressors.
  • Demonstrable machinery knowledge in a manufacturing environment or with an OEM supplier of rotating equipment.
  • Experience of successfully managing major machinery TAR workscope with a proven set of KPI’s to ensure successful TAR execution and commissioning.
  • Strong communication skills and networking abilities; a good understanding of manufacturing and commercial interdependencies and a strong ability to challenge established practice and to look for improvements.
  • Commercial awareness of the relationship with machinery suppliers (a business qualification would be advantageous e.g. MBA).
  • Post holder would be expected to have the skills and experience to fulfill the technical authority role for rotating equipment for O&P UK
  • Knowledge and understanding of INEOS 20 Principles for Managing Behavioural and Process Safety.
  • Good understanding of the application of the site Plant Modification process and associated documentation management systems
  • Ability to influence, and drive performance in indirect reporting organisations.
