This is an exciting time to join us at our Grangemouth site, INEOS’ largest manufacturing asset which includes Scotland’s only crude oil refinery.
Although based in Grangemouth the Marine Assurance Team supports the marine activities of 14 INEOS businesses Worldwide. 
In addition, the Team provides local marine expertise to the Grangemouth site supporting its substantial marine infrastructure and activities


Context for role:

Assess and approve vessels to transport petrochemicals, oils and gases by sea and inland waterways for INEOS Businesses in compliance with company policies, national and international regulations whilst meeting business logistics requirements.
 

  • To deliver marine strategies to the INEOS Group to meet annual HSE, availability and cost targets.
  • Vet 6000 seagoing vessels and 6000 barges per annum for INEOS use Worldwide. This activity substantially reduces the risk associated with INEOS’ marine shipping logistics.
  • Port Clear 3000 seagoing vessels for INEOS use Worldwide
  • Interface with fourteen different INEOS businesses with operating centres Worldwide.


Principle Accountabilities of the role:

  • Assist with the development and delivery of the INEOS Marine Assurance Service (IMAS) standards and procedures to effectively manage the risks associated with marine shipping operations that address the acceptability of ships and barges.
  • Maintain good networking relationships with numerous INEOS businesses to enhance their marine operations.
  • Maintain and monitor the IMAS Ship Vetting, Barge Vetting, Port Information and Port Clearance Databases to ensure they are always kept current thus allowing INEOS businesses to make optimum use of these.
  • Provide marine technical and operational support to the Grangemouth site.
  • Conduct ship inspections to an identified industry standard and produce formal reports with recommendations for distribution to and evaluation by International users.
  • Conduct owner/operator audits to evaluate and improve service provision from these suppliers.
  • Deputise for the European Barge Assurance Superintendent during periods of absence
  • Deputise for the Senior Marine Assurance Superintendent during periods of absence


Special Features:

  • Ability to work across many businesses with differing priorities, both within and outwith the INEOS Group
  • To be part of a 1:4 on call team to answer urgent out-of-hours vetting, port clearance and marine emergency intimations.
  • Accomplish at least 6 formal ship inspections per annum under the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) inspection regime and submit these inspection reports to the system for use by its International Members.


Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Qualifications: A Class 1 Marine Certificate of Competency or Degree in Nautical Science is essential together with experience on tankers and gas carriers & extensive (>10yrs) seagoing experience in a senior position. In addition the post holder will possess or be expected to gain a ship inspection qualification under OCIMF SIRE Scheme
  • Knowledge: The jobholder will require an extensive operational, technical and safety knowledge of chemical, oil and gas tanker operations through serving on such vessels and/or being previously employed in an appropriate ship or terminal management position ashore. Gas tanker experience in a Senior Officer role is particularly important for this particular post
  • Skills: The postholder will possess skills to engage successfully with third parties in industry. The incumbent must be a good communicator and demonstrate an ability to make wise decisions. The individual should be a good team player with the ability to contribute to solving demanding operational problems.
