Mechanical Workshop Technician, Grangemouth Refinery – Permanent.

Petroineos Refining and Trading is one of the largest independent refiners trading in Europe. This is an exciting time to join us at our Grangemouth site; we are seeking a Workshop Technician to join our Engineering Team at our Grangemouth site on a permanent basis.
The purpose of this role is to provide a safe and cost effective maintenance and repair support function for company equipment that gives assurance for continued business operation and compliance with legislative requirements under PUWER. This requires that machines and/or general engineering items are prepared, measured, diagnosed, repaired, assembled and tested in accordance with workshop instructions.

Key responsibilities

Ensure a satisfactory level of work performance against all health and safety rules and regulations, including new initiatives as they are introduced, that will contribute to the company goal of achieving a high level of regulatory compliance
Examine faulty equipment, components and/or services in order to accurately diagnose the root cause of a fault and hence complete the appropriate repairs, and where possible, produce recommendations to prevent recurrence.
Perform and execute job/work plans effectively and achieve a satisfactory completion as measured through speed, efficiently and a tidy/clean work area
Perform measuring and testing of mechanical components for size, geometry and material of construction using a variety of measuring tools and diagnostic devices
Through the use of basic engineering fitting skills exercise and apply these to achieve effective bench work that ensures the correct assembly of rotating machines, machine elements and/or general engineering components within the acceptable tolerances required
Execute basic machine tool tasks on manual centre lathes to manufacture simple, uncomplicated engineering components
Perform leak testing and mechanical inspection work after assembling machine elements to verify fitness for purpose criteria
Provide completed quality work pack reports that are both legible and error free which describes the ‘before’ and ‘after’ health status of machines, machine elements and/or general engineering components
Assist and support other members of the engineering team, inclusive of company apprentices/trainees and any term contractors or specialist service providers, in order to achieve a satisfactory repair to equipment, components or services, either in the field or within the workshop

Skills/Experience required

Formal mechanical apprenticeship
SVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
HNC Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Basic machine tool technology skills in centre lathe work
Capable of reading detailed technical drawings/diagrams
Previous experience of a COMAH site
Personable with the ability to articulate with people on all levels
Supportive of business needs working within own capabilities or through instruction, particularly in times of business crisis or manufacturing upset/disruption

Self-motivated and adaptable to changing work needs, environment or situations
Willing and keen to learn and develop and to look to the future
Confident to take action based on own decisions and for reporting plant defects, near misses or occurrences in order to improve safety and operability
Operate on own initiative when supervision is not present
Focused (safety, speed, quality)
