Process Engineer - Competitive Salary and Benefits


FPS is a 100% INEOS-owned integrated oil and gas transportation and processing system serving the central area of the North Sea.

The Kinneil Terminal consists of three processing trains which handle the incoming pipeline fluids from the Forties Pipeline System (FPS) and Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) from St. Fergus via Cruden Bay.

The crude oil feedstock is initially heated before being passed through separators to split the feed into stabilised crude oil, water and raw gas components.  The raw gas is further  processed at Kinneil and the stabilised Forties Blend crude oil is exported at the Hound Point terminal.

Job Purpose

  • Provide process engineering expertise to the FPS South Kinneil oil and gas processing facility to support the short and medium term strategy.
  • Carry out development studies and support projects.
  • Optimise plant, and energy/utility usage.
  • Regularly review operating envelopes.
  • Carry out modelling, trouble shooting and problem solving as required.
  • Carry out and review plant modifications and associated risk assessments.
  • Ensure that all process engineering documents and procedures are kept up to date.
  • Provide additional process engineering support to plant turn around activity and start-ups.
  • Coaches/mentors less experienced engineers to ensure process safety issues are addressed as part of design and operational processes.
  • Participates in  HAZOP and LOPAs reviews as required, complete HAZOP and LOPA actions.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Provide process engineering support and expertise to Kinneil facility.
  • Lead plant development studies, plant improvements and project support.
  • Manage HAZOP and LOPA actions close out.
  • Strong, demonstrable SHE and process safety leadership within the office environment and onsite.
  • Carry out trouble shooting on plant and monitor operating envelopes.
  • Regularly reviews the status of process engineering information, identifies gaps and develops improvement plans.
  • Audits asset compliance with the plant modification system and identifies areas for improvement

Job Requirements

  • Job holder expected to be part of the FPS Incident Management Team (formal rota).
  • Periods of inconvenience to support planned and unplanned outages.

Qualifications, knowledge and Skills

  • Chartered Chemical Engineer or working towards chartered status with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in oil and gas or chemical industry operations.  This experience should be wide ranging and cover some experience of projects, design and manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to create relationships with stakeholders and 3rd party specialists.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing Process Engineering support to either onshore or offshore operations.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management processes – knowledge of specific tools required and ability to interpret results.
  • Familiar with of management of change processes.
  • Awareness of human factors influence on process safety.
  • Good understanding & awareness of on and offshore processes & working practices.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office.
