Due to continued growth within INEOS Olefins and Polymers UK we are now looking to hire a Shift Optimisation Leader to join us on a full time and permeant basis. The successful applicant will ensure execution of the optimised operating plans for the Olefins and Polymers UK business and hosted assets. In addition, the Shift Optimisation Leader will be the initial contact for Safety and Security Management, liaison with Competent & Local Authorities (H&SE, SEPA, Police and Emergency Services) and Community Complaints before handover to day personnel for ongoing management.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Ensure delivery of the optimized operating plan and implement any required deviations. Experience is required in cracker economics, production planning and awareness of market pricing for cracker feedstocks and products.
  • Coordinate hydrocarbon optimization ( including the import of up to 500 ktpa of US ethane) , stock levels and shipping and ensure impacts are included in the site optimization evaluation. Requires liaison with INEOS feedstock and shipping teams in Canary Wharf, third parties in the UK, other INEOS businesses in Koeln and Rafnes, and external shipping companies.
  • Coordinate the operation of the UK Pipeline ethylene system and Wilton C2 exports to optimize value for O&P UK
  • Execute optimization of the Power station for IIGL.
  • Identify commercial growth projects through understanding and investigation of constraints  prepare a Capital Case with involvement of the day team for the attention of the Site Investment Committee.
  • Advise and inform key contacts out of hours on changes to the operating plan to minimize loss in value.  Key contacts include BP, PMSL, Polimeri, Dow, Sabic, Shell, Exxon, INEOS Chlor, Oxides and O&P North, shipping, HSE and SEPA.
  • Prepare and where appropriate initiate the utilities load shed to minimize impact on site operations.
  • Complete Natural Gas nominations on shift basis to meet the site plans
  • Plan for both O&P UK and third party contracts.
  • Coordinate the process to drive consistent and effective shift communications to ensure the key commercial drivers are being employed for site optimization.
  • Authorise call out of the Site Incident Management Team in the event of an incident on site and take the role of Incident Manager until the arrival of Incident Management Team to ensure incident is appropriately managed
  • Notify and inform all Community (neighbours, public) or Competent Authority (H&SE, SEPA, Police)  of any relevant issues on site and handover to day based personnel for ongoing management.

Special Features

  • The post incorporates 5 Shift Optimisation Leaders to cover a 5 shift rota.  The team manages any requirement for flexible working to cover sickness, absence and ad hoc requests for time off.
  • Whilst the role does not have any direct reports the post is the central point on shift for communication and execution of the site operating plan. This is especially during difficult decision making scenarios when there is conflict or competition for feedstock, shipping priorities, or upsets / deviations from manufacturing plans.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

  • Chartered Chemical Engineer with five years’ experience or significant experience on site ideally with manufacturing and production planning experience
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills and strong level of commercial awareness
  • The post holder should have knowledge of safety and production processes on a large petrochemicals plant.
  • Trained as Incident Manager and On Scene Commander
  • Understanding of site operations and hydrocarbon stream synergies
  • Understanding of product distribution infrastructure including UK wide ethylene network
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to influence externally.
